Jamaica Farewell, writted and performed by Deborah Enrhardt
An Encore Performance Directed by Wallace Norman
Woodstock, NY… Woodstock Fringe kicks off the 2008 season with a party and fundraiser on Saturday, August 2nd at 4:00pm at the beautiful and historic Byrdcliffe Theater. The event will begin at 4:00pm with a banquet of Jamaican Food, followed by a one-time-only performance of Jamaica, Farewell. Champagne and dessert will follow the performance. Following her ten-week Off-Broadway run at the So-Ho Playhouse, directed by Woodstock Fringe Producing Artistic Director Wallace Norman earlier this spring, Deborah Ehrhardt returns with a special encore performance of her hit play. Critically acclaimed as “Exuberant High Comedy!” by The New York Times and “Powerful . . . with wit and a melodic Jamaican lilt, Enrhardt proves to be an entertaining and charming raconteur” by The New Yorker, and “Mesmerizing . . . Exultant. . . a Joy!” by The Kingston Freeman, Jamaica, Farewell has been touring nationally and internationally and will likely be headed to London in the spring of 2009.
Jamaica, Farewell was presented at last year’s Woodstock Fringe Festival of Theatre & Song and played to standing ovations for seven performances. Ehrhardt says of her experience with Woodstock Fringe, “Being a part of the Woodstock Fringe Festival in the summer of 2007 was an experience I will cherish forever. The constructive feedback I received from audiences and experienced directors, such as Wallace Norman, was invaluable to me and was the springboard that inspired me to fine-tune my play into a work of art.”
Woodstock Fringe has become an important artistic presence in Woodstock, the Hudson Valley, New York City and beyond. Several works produced first at Woodstock Fringe have gone on to commercial Off-Broadway runs. Member playwrights have won awards and have received performances all over the country.
