Does he go to the police or does he help his friend with his scheme to escape and put life and work in jeopardy? One performance only. Free of charge.
Mouth/Musik - performed by Gerald Fierst and Mikael Esila
Gerald Fierst, “A Master Story Teller,” ABC News, partners with jazz keyboardist Mikael Elsila to create riffs of spoken word improvisation based on traditional folktales from world culture. “I think of Gerry’s stories as spoken love and our audiences, parents and their children of all ages, were touched by it.” – Regina Weichert, Museum of American Folk Art, NYC. Material drawn from daily life, newspapers, and literature, become rhythmic images and narrative journeys that lead to stories that have been passed down from generation to generation: Suddenly, the old tales become new again. Two performances only. Thursday 8/21/2003 5:00 PM | Sunday 8/24/2003 2:00 PM
Wake of the Essex by Lou Rodgers
Performed by Bob Manzari
A new play. A true story, this play is based on the whaling ship Essex, which was sunk by a whale in the 1820’s. The surviving Captain told his story to Herman Melville, who then wrote the classic Moby Dick. The play follows the psychological journey of the captain after the wreck and his struggle with guilt and survival and features a haunt-ing and deeply moving solo performance by Bob Manzari. A curtain opener, Hair of the Dog, also by Lou Rodgers will begin the evening. Jon Rodgers, a recording artist and another descendent of the sea captain, will provide original music. One performance only. Saturday, 8/30/2003, 5:00 p.m.
